Presentation of the Domaine des Pothiers - La Colline en Flamme - Red

Discover this superb organic Loire red wine. The La Colline en Flamme vintage from Domaine des Pothiers. On the nose, we discover a bouquet of jammy fruits and spices . On the palate, the wine is lively and slightly tannic. We appreciate the notes of red fruits. It is a perfect wine to accompany a piece of grilled meat, beef bourguignon, small game, farm cheeses...

HISTORY OF THE ESTATE

The Côte Roannaise is a vineyard in the Loire Valley located furthest south, not far from the source of the river. It is located on hillsides overlooking the Loire and forming the first foothills of the Massif Central. The vineyard is confidential, with only a little more than 230 hectares of vines planted on the best granite hillsides between 400 and 600 meters above sea level. The estate is located in the town of Villemontais, in the southern part of the appellation. The Pothier family , their ancestors, exploited it for centuries. Vines occupied most of it and a few cows were raised on plots that were too humid for growing vines. In 1916, Blaise Pothier was killed in combat, the estate was then taken over by his sister and her husband Claude Paire. In 1949, Benoit Paire , their son, inherited the farm and began to modernize it (the estate only had 2 hectares of vines and lived mainly from breeding), his son Georges succeeded him in 1974. Passionate about vineyard, he begins to replant with the help of his wife Denise . The surface area increases to 5 hectares of vines. In 2005, Romain joined his parents and moved in as well. The plantations continue, the vatage is modernized and the farm turns to organic cultivation, then biodynamic (Biodyvin certified). Today the estate has once again become mainly wine-growing (while retaining the mixed farming-livestock part) and has 22 hectares of vines and 70 hectares of meadow.
