Presentation of Château du Cèdre - Extra Libre, Cahors - Red

The Extra Libre red wine from Château du Cèdre perfectly represents the revival of Cahors. It is a drinkable wine which demonstrates that Malbec is a rich and complex grape variety which allows the production of a wide spectrum of wines. Its garnet red color invites tasting. The nose reveals a bouquet of black fruits and spices, with subtle vegetal notes. On the palate, the light tannins allow us to appreciate a suave and elegant wine. As the wine ages, it reveals more of its spicy flavors and its light grain of tannins on the finish.

The estate has worked for many years on this “Vin Nature” cuvée in order to offer a perfectly balanced wine, without any defects, with great aging potential.

HISTORY OF THE ESTATE

Château du Cèdre is one of the most renowned estates in the South-West Region and more particularly in the Cahors appellation. The vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir with on the one hand the famous “tran” which gives delicate and elegant wines and on the other hand a pebble soil bringing more power to the wine. The Verhaeghe brothers have been producing deep and elegant wines for over 15 years. Working mainly with Malbec (which constitutes 90% of the vines), Château du Cèdre offers us vintages rich in substance, with refined tannins and a velvety texture. Their star Cuvée, Extra-Libre, without sulfur is an example of success. Château du Cèdre wines are often praised in the specialist press and in major oenological guides.
